I’ve been listening to the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! podcasts on WWI. I knew it was horrible, but it is easy to forget how horrible it was. He mentioned that at times the shelling was so severe it was like a drum roll and it would go on and on. The countries went through munitions at a rate that was unthinkable prior to the war and rarely matched after, even in WWII. There were days early in the war where each side had over 100k casualties in a single day. Crazy.

World War One has been stated many times by historians as “sucking a whole load of gonorrhoea infested dick”.

And then after all that shit, the Spanish Flu shows up and kills another 20 million people.

WW I stats were simply unbelievable. They were fighting a war like they did in the 1700’s with the new technology of the 20th century. Absolutely unfathomable what these soldiers endured.

Have you heard the Mongols podcast? I think that is his best.

Yeah, that one was good. Amazing podcasts about an incredible time in history. Blows my mind what the force of will of one man could get people to do and then what small things brought it all down.

Oh for sure. I took a class in college that was almost entirely devoted to the Mongols, but it didn’t come close to what I learned in that podcast.

I just got into these recently. Only about 2 hrs into the first WW1 one. I never realized how serendipitous the assassination of Ferdinand was.

LOL at the guy who took the defective cyanide and jumped into a 6” deep river.

My great grandpa was a messenger in WWI, he said lots of people just faded away and never were the same again. I can’t even imagine what the smell was like. I was a Marine overseas and I’m sure it was nothing compared to that hell they created. I also imagine the island hopping Marines were in a pretty dark hell as well, ships, landings, jungle and very determined Japanese soldiers.

WW1 boggles the mind. Average french production of 75mm shells was 100k a day!

A good movie about a love story during the war A very Long Engagement . It won a bunch of awards for the historical accuracy of the sets and battle scenes.

As mentioned in the podcast when you have an entire generation that went through that meat grinder it really doesn’t surprise me that they just said “Fuck it” and tried to appease Germany.
